At its core, Teach-Quest.com is a teacher guided behaviour management software for teachers and students to use in the classroom. TeachQuest incorporates role-playing elements into the classroom by assigning each student their own unique character.
Role-playing games are a popular genre of games where players act the roles of fantasy characters. Players are then able to play the game with their character earning experience points, which leads to a character leveling up and gaining strength or power.
RPGs usually use stats such as "hit points (HP)" and "mana or mana points (MP)" along with various other stats that aren't relevant as they are not present in TeachQuest. Players also usually collect some form of currency in the game which allows them to buy things which can make them more powerful.
What make RPGs fun to engage with is seeing your character grow over time. To look back on the start of the journey and remember how little you had and how little you could do, and to then look now at your character and see all it's power.
RPGs also usually allow each character to pick a specific class. A class is kind of like a profession in RPGs. You can have different classes like Warriors or Mages, or Warlocks, etc. TeachQuest hosts it's own set of unique classes each with their own set of stats and spells.
Another feature usually found in RPG games is some form of spell casting or magical powers being used. In order to use these spells, you will need mana as described earlier. So you need to plan properly to make sure you are using your mana as efficiently as possible.
So, we're going to break down the different kinds of stats in the game and how they are used in the classroom. This will help you see how you can use these in your classroom on a daily basis.
Every student must pick 1 of the 4 unique classes. This class will determine their spells, hitpoints and mana for the game.
Defender is a class designed around protecting other players from taking damage. When anyone takes damage, a defender can stand up and reduce that damage depending on their level.
Wizard is a magical class that uses spells to restore mana to other players and other cool magical abilities.
Medic is responsible for healing other characters who are low on life.
Augmenter uses their abilities to enhance other classes for a short period of time.
The character is restored to 1HP and is assigned a curse by the teacher.
Curses are basically consequences the student will receive. Some examples could be extra homework, or a detention.
Cursed students will glow red when you open them up showing everyone that they are cursed. The teacher can remove the curse at any time once the sentence has been served.
The game comes with 4 universal spells, and 4 spells for each class in the game. Teachers can also create their own spells and disable any of the default ones in the system if they dont like them or want them used.
As of now, only teachers can cast spells for students. The students are able to see their spells, but not cast them. This is likely to change in the future, but at the present, only teachers can cast the spells.
Some examples of spells could be healing another student, or defending a student from taking damage, restoring mana, or getting less homework.
A core feature of the game is our module named RANDOM ENCOUNTERS. This is a little mini-game which teachers can trigger as they like to have an event happen. These can be good or bad events which reward students or damage them!
Like spells, the default random encounters can be disabled, and teachers can create their own. At the click of a button, your students are engaged in a random event which can change the course of the day.
Some examples of random encounters could be everyone in the class receiving 100g because the king is feeling generous, or a dangerous earthquake occurred in the night causing everyone to take 5HP of damage.
We're also working on new features in the near future such as a big one called RAIDS. RAIDS will allow students to fight monsters in a dungeon by answering test questions. As the students get the answers right, the monsters will take damage and the players will continue through the dungeon until they teach the final boss which will have a series of questions (all created by the teacher) which will test the students knowledge. Any wrong answers will result in damage to the students and any correct answers will damage the boss until it is defeated! Just imagine the possiblities!
